Users review: Bad prequel to The Wizard of Oz. It begins in 1905 with James Franco (seriously miscast) plays a con artist / magician who works on a broken carnival. Due to circumstances too stupid to tell you that he is taken to the land of Oz. Away There he finds three sisters, who sees everything - Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams). They are waiting for a wizard to help fight an evil witch get them. They throw in a cartoon flying monkey and a little doll of porcelain - go and talk of course. It start on a small screen and in b & w and (when it hits Oz) screen opens wide and color kicks in. It looks great - the color is hyper light and special effects are great - but that's about it. The story is slow, long and boring. There are plenty of holes in the logic, the comedy is terrible, and if it includes cute little life lessons that appear in any Disney movie. These messages are so heavy-handed, children will also probably find them obvious and stupid. Also, due to copyright issues, Disney had to change things in the movie. There are no ruby ââslippers and scary flying monkeys from the original now looks stupid flying baboons. Acting does not help. Franco trying to be charming and lovable, but appears to be annoying and stupid. Williams has nothing to work with, Weisz (unwisely) underplays his role and Kunis is a blank. I was bored out of my mind and could not wait to finish the film. Children might like, but I hated it. A wood.
