Users review: Michael Bay's Pain and gain a very dark, very dark comedy about three Knucklehead bodybuilders in the pursuit of their own American dream, although the road is paved with sex, drugs, torture, humiliation and even murder. Bay shameless reputation for huge explosions, choppy editing, too flashy / beautiful cinematography, sexy women, fancy cars and (recently) giant robots. The pain and gain returns in low budget territory of Bad Boys debut in 1995. The result - a movie style debauchery - the whole film. Although Bay cut back on explosions and robots (mercifully), everything else is Bay written all over it, and given that morbidly funny movies matter is, it refers Bay at the head of an energetic and they must give the audience whipped out of crazy driving ahead.For this film, he has amassed Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson and Anthony Mackie as three bumble-heads who have their hearts set the right goals, but clearly lacks the intellect to do so. All three look jacked up and play their parts as funny as that part of going for it, especially Johnson, who obviously has a blast showing a completely different side of him, contrary to what weve seen it too late. Wahlberg plays a character so dangerously stupid and silly to wonder if such a person exists in real life. Tony Shalhoubs unfortunate, but jerk-ish character sets the tone for most of the film as his dilemma derives from the spectrum of ridicule in another. By the time we reached Bar Palys sexy and hilarious Rebel Wilson's love interest characters that the audience probably had enough.Then the next Ed Harris as Detective Du Bois. Just when I thought the movie was to Careen off the rails into madness. Hes just a normal person in the whole movie, and his presence helps bring balance and clarity to what was funny the first half.Comic relief is key in Bay action movie, but here you niches is all comedy, and he certainly did not pull stops . The film is, simply put, hysterical. The fact that it is actually a true story makes it even more fun to see who can honestly think of a story like this and pull if off right? I realize that this is a film that had to be done to free the story and characters. Some scenes were undoubtedly exaggerated, but which one? Every scene looked and felt so surreal, funny every major character, every line of dialogue causes the audience smile. But it was dementedly fun ride, and the Gulf of two sequels to bloated giant robots, finally returning to his step.
