Users review: The film begins as a generic even pedestrian romantic comedy and seems to be headed in the typical cliché? driven direction, but, fortunately, develops into something more. Jake Gyllenhaal and his character funny fat alleged attack by almost deliberately created as an illustration of what is wrong with most romantic comedies. Anne Hathaways character who is the catalyst for the transformation of two-dimensional rom-com to something deeper and more enjoyable. If it is drawn (pun intended because more Anne Hathaway naked the better) her character compels both Gyllenhaal character and the film itself to grow (almost like Viagra). What follows is a deeply moving and sometimes really interesting film. Comments for fighting disease, and enjoying life at the moment are all relevant and poignant. Even the supporting characters are given moments to shine. Oliver Pratts drug representative has a wonderful scene comes to dinner and there to explain what's wrong with being a doctor and comments on the state of the Hippocratic oath. Even clever drunken ramble A dispassionate and even annoying start, this movie surprised me and is worth the ticket price.
